====== About us ======
We are Modeemi IT club operating at Tampere University, Hervanta Campus. Established in 1977 year, club has long tradition of spreading and preserving the knowledge about the Unix, Linux, Servers, computer networking and computers in general! We like to give the //proper opinions// on technical topics.

==== What do we offer? ====

  * Being a part of the legendary IT student community that exists for almost 50 years, and provides a possibilities to develop technical skills, friendly clubroom space and sense of belonging to it’s members.
  * User account, with unique username on our UNIX/Linux systems (which exists already for more than 25 years).
  * An [[modeemi:pub:mail_system|email account]] with address in username@modeemi.fi format (upon request also in name.surname.xyz@modeemi.fi). You can use Thunderbird or other mail clients of Your choice. Modeemi started providing mailboxes to it's members **years before the Gmail even existed**, and all the mailboxes belonging to current members that were created back then **still exist**!
  * Few stable shell machines You can login to and use as our member (for example for coding / compiling / chatting on IRC).
  * Storage for home directory, // /home/your-username // (quasi-unlimited space, but subject to common-sense), available on the shell machines.
  *  [[members:sesam|Access to the clubroom]] (please be advised, that __in the clubroom at Tampere University {{:modeemi:pub:tuniclubroomrules.pdf|additional rules}} have to be followed__)
  * Possibility to propose / lead / participate in / maintain on-premise-hosted IT projects that help student community of Tampere University (one notable example is doors.modeemi.fi).
  * Possibility to tinker with LabRack in the clubroom, which main purpose is for the club members to provide opportunities for server/network oriented tinkering inside the clubroom. Assistance is available, ask latteistovastava (kvivi, kompurotta or niko)


==== Checklist for new member ====

  - Login onto the //coffee.modeemi.fi// by SSH with your personal Modeemi account. Create some file in Your home directory (basically personal user storage).
  - Get in front of the clubroom, login to //coffee// and type //sesam// in the console. Wait for the magic (more info [[members:sesam|here]]).
  - Join Telegram group - https://t.me/+rS5F6kS7BkczNDRk (Info), and the private group for the members (members can login on this wiki, and see the link).
  - Meet other Modeemi members ([[https://doors.modeemi.fi|doors.modeemi.fi]] can help with that)
  - Set up your Modeemi inbox on Your mail client (you can personalize .procmailrc setting, so that incoming mail get’s automatically sorted into different folders, dependent of Sender, Recipient, Content)
